So, here is the thing, Sometimes you think you've seen it all and
nothing else out there is worth being captured. We just happened to have
a fantastic rain storm, so I opened my garage and laid down on my belly
way down low with my long lens to capture this bombardment of water on
my drive way.
Just proves... you ain't seen nothing yet ;)

Rocks and Moss
Had a good conversation tonight with a dear friend about photography in
general and what kind of emotion a picture can invoke to the viewers
eye. For many a photograph like this one may mean nothing other than a
bunch of rocks and clouds. For me a special experience ties my feelings
to this point and time. I remember vividly when I took the shot and the
awe that followed in the minutes after I took this picture.

Space Travel
Boy I haven't been to my own blog in a while even though I shot and processed a ton of new stuff. The above shot is from New Hope's Ivyland Train.
I got really busy on G+ where all the interaction and inspiration really lives. If you are interested in adding me to your G+ circles please feel free to do so. I'd be honored :-)

A rock in the mud
A rock in the mud... there really isn't anything special about this rock
as it just sits there waiting for nothing. About 6 hours before he was
surrounded by water. A rock at the bottom of the sea. Maybe a school of
fish ran circles around him. Who knows. At low tide of the north sea
exposes the the wadden sea (ocean ground) for a few hours. If timed
right you can walk over to the Frisian islands about 5 km off shore the
northern German coastline.

Tarantula
As I was driving down this winding road I was just thinking what it would be like to come across a giant tarantula or wrecked UFO. This landscape would make a perfect background for a 1950's B-Scifi flick.

Scarlett Alley
Scarlett Alley in Philadelphia. I wish there was someone walking into this scene but it just didn't work out. Sometime all you get is a tree with lights wrapped around and a window. But wait, if you look closer you can see someone in this pic ;)

Continental
Last night I walked the streets of Philadelphia and had the opportunity to learn some great tricks from the talented photographer Oliver Fluck. Make sure to check out his work!
It sure was cold as hell but it was all worth it. Thanks Oliver for for tagging me along.

Do not enter
After a nice morning out with my newly acquired Zeiss Ikon I had some time left to look through some stuff from last summer. This one is also form Brazil.

Almost Mono Dodge
I spotted "Almost Mono Dodge" this morning. I only had my "toy" camera with me (Fuji X10) but by now I have to admit it's anything but.

Ilha das Cabras
Remote Islands are cool. There is no where else to got, being forced to make the best of what's at hand. Except, this one isn't remote, it's of Brazils coast between Ilhabela and the mail land. Still Cool though :-)

Let Go
This tree is holding on to what's left its glory. Soon all leaves will be gone and after a short break nature will once again prepare to wow us with renewed life.
I took this picture on my way to work this morning with my cell phone.

Vertorama I
Something else..
A small church on the island of Ilhabela, Brazil.
To achieve the look of this photo I combined 2 frames of 3 exposures each. Something I have never done before but definitely explore more as soon as I get my new Spherical Panorama Head :-D

The Classic
I'm not really into classic cars, but only because I have no clue to fix them. I'd love to have a ride like the one above spotted in Boulder City, Nevada. Maybe one day I get my fingers greasy but for now I'll try to keep the grease off my cameras lens.

Something else I brought home from my trip last week. This rock formation one can find near the visitor center only a short 5 minute away from the visitor center's parking lot. I was actually waiting for night to fall to take some amazing shots of the milky way which becomes visible at night. After the last visitors left I was the only person left for miles. I have to admit it was a bit eery to be out in the wild, hoping no mountain lions were nearby.

Valley of Fire
This one is from the Valley of Fire, Nevada. Here you can find some very unique rock formations as sands blasting the rocks over thousands of years. At sunset the whole valley appears to be on fire giving meaning to the name "Valley of Fire". To top that in July temperature can reach 140 degree Fahrenheit.

Ilhabela Sunset
A few weeks ago I spend some time with my family in Brazil. sunsets and sunrises on Ilhabela are spectacular, in this shot you are looking at the Brazilian mainland. The name Ilhabela means Beautiful Island. I love how the Brazilians get to the point. Once you visit you will too. Just remember to bring plenty of mosquito deterrent because they like this place too.

Coke
It has been a while since I posted here because I was busy in Brazil. During my 2 week stay I managed to get a few shot which I'll post here in time. Soda vending machines always fascinate me, they never get old or outdated. Here is one I spotted on the most beautiful island of all time Ilhabela, Brazil inside a small shopping mall.

I adapted a new watermark for my pictures named "Light Code" . All my new work will now have a watermark with my new water mark. Why you ask? Just because:-)

Inside an Icelandic Home with typical nordic decor. Reminds me of my childhood in Ostfriesland, Germany.

Stormy Weather
This old Vessel I found near a farm in southern Iceland. The cabin or"Bridge" was so small that one can't imagine how a skipper could fit into it. This is probably my worst nightmare to maneuver this nutshell in the arctic seas. Reminds me of The Perfect Storm.

No Color
Sometimes I get tired of color, especially when working with HDR. So for this one I removed all color and to keep it as simple as possible I increased only contrast. Let me know what you think.

The Little Work Shop
No, I'm not offering any work shops here. I'm sure in some way there was an app for whatever in those days too. Back then they were called tools. Tools have a different meaning these days, at least for some of us. I've been called a tool myself :^)

Self Portrait
After some crazy rain showers one afternoon the sun finally came out again so I headed back to the beach. On my way I stop the car to take a pic with my medium format Kiev 88. I just got the negatives back and realized I'm in it. Try to find me :-D

Halgrimmskirkja
This is Halgrimmskirkja, a Church down in Reykjavik. Probably one of the most unusual churches I've ever seen. Simple yet majestic. A must see if you ever go to Iceland.

Vik
The Beach around Vik in Iceland is famous for it's black sand made from volcanic rock. I had to bring some home so my family would believe me. Here I spend around 4 hours just taking pics of some rocks until the wind finally got the best of me sending me back to the hotel with hypothermia. Oh what will you do for a nice shot?

Nordic Girls
You'll come across some pretty girls in Iceland but none are as charming and pretty as the Icelandic Horse. She was looking at me but I wasn't going to jump the fence separating us.

Rocks
...so I spend 3 days in Iceland and was hoping to capture as much as I can. I basically skipped sleeping as it seemed pointless when the sun is shining into you hotel room window at midnight. To prevent myself from going nuts I checked my watch every 10 minutes, I just couldn't believe the time. The above picture I took just outside the Reykjavik airport. A pile of rocks you may think, but for me it was an opportunity not to be missed. After all I just got her and had no clue what to come across next. I was in for a big treat!

The Road to Nowhere?
I'm back into photography for about 3 or 4 year now. I have no training whatsoever. When I purchased my first DSLR in 1996 ( a Canon XTI ) I thought what else can be there to it? It seemed easy enough to snap a few good pics. Remember in 2006 DSLR's where kinda high end, it wasn't like everybody on the street would lug around a cool important looking camera. Since I moved on to a Canon 5D and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 5d Mk III. The thing is that I get daily inspiration of work done by other Photographers, most of 'em are actually " Photographers " and not amateurs like me. As I admire their work and aspire someday to be like one of them. I'm starting to realize that having an "expensive " camera just isn't gonna cut it. I actually have to take a huge step back to the basics and learn the meaning of photography. All photographers can attest that the Camera doesn't take the pictures, You do. Someone once said " I make pictures, I don't take pictures" .
The above picture is the result of a book I'm reading I thought I never would. Its "Understanding Exposure
" by Brian Peterson. This book probably is the ultimate photography bible when it comes to photography basics. Every Photography student probably had to read it at some point. I was under wrongly under the expression that there really wouldn't be anything in this book I don't already know. Boy was I wrong and foolish. Terms like "F/8 and everything looks great" shall be banned from my repertoire as I truly didn't know what I was talking about. The above pic was F/22.
I now now it's a long road ahead......but it'll be fun and I know it'll lead somewhere :-)
